What You Get:
Academic + Social Fit
Finding a good college fit can be a challenge, but matching the student’s interests with the vast possibilities that colleges offer is important and can be exhilarating. PS College Counseling provides a college search roadmap to guide families and students toward successful outcomes with less stress.
Students and families should consider a number of factors when considering colleges. Does the college have the right academic program? Will the student be comfortable and happy at a large public university? Is a tight-knit, small college community appealing? How about a school with a strong social activist element? Does the student prefer a rural or an urban setting? PS College Counseling can help students and families address all of these questions and more. Beginning with discussions about the student’s plans and preferences, we can help identify a balanced group of colleges that will meet the academic and social needs of the student.
Focus on Affordability
PS College Counseling has extensive training and experience with the financial aid process. We will work closely with the family to explore eligibility for need-based and merit aid and will help build a college list that includes schools where the family can maximize aid offers and minimize net price. In short, we will ensure that financial fit will be considered in addition to academic and social fit. Our focus on financial fit is unique in the college counseling field and we are most effective when families commit to open communications about college costs and funding. In addition, our rates are well below the industry average, because we care more about helping families than about profits for the business.
Build STrong Applications
While the student maintains responsibility for developing college applications, PS College Counseling can help guide the student and review drafts. We will help the student showcase talents, accomplishments, and service, and will provide a “light touch” review of college essays. We can also help the student target necessary standardized tests. Guidance regarding early decision, early action, and test-optional schools will also be provided.
